Calculation of weld stresses in box section bars

Abstract. Engineering technique of calculation of temporary and residual weld stresses in box section bars is presented. This calculation technique is based on an analytical approach to solution of temperature problems developed by prof. V.S. Ignatieva and on a theory of heat transfer during welding developed by acad. N.N. Rykalin. A field of weld stresses within a bar crosssection is determined, which makes it possible to take weld stresses into account when analyzing buckling, strength and rigidity of welded box section bars.
