Effect of expanded polystyrene bead and fly ash on the properties of polystyrene concrete

Abstract. The present study evaluated the combined effects of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and fly ash (FA) of TPP Vung Ang (Vietnam) on the density and compressive strength of polystyrene concrete.
According to the standard GOST 25820­2014, the studied concrete compositions contain (30 ? 50)% EPS by volume of concrete mixture and (20 ? 40)% FA of the cement weight is considered as lightweight concrete. The test results showed that by increasing the amount of EPS and FA decreases the density of concrete, but also reduces the mobility and strength of light fine­grained concrete mixture, so the choice of concrete depends on the kind of enclosing the structure. The resulting lightweight fine­grained concretes are suitable for the construction of high­rise buildings and skyscrapers in the hot and humid climate of Vietnam.
