Abstract. The expediency of application of heat pump systems for heating and cooling of the building rooms is not obvious in the Moscow region. The purpose of the proposed article is to evaluate the operation efficiency of the ground heat exchanger as a source of heat and cold for heating and cooling of the building, when the ratio between the annual heating and cooling loads changes. The second purpose of the article is to compare energy and economic indicators of two fundamentally different systems of the heat and cold supply: the first system uses a ground heat exchanger as a heat and cold source, the second one is a traditional system where a centralized heat supply pipeline is the heat source, and the cold supply is provided by the VRF system. The choice of the object of the thermal microclimate maintenance, which in addition to heating in winter requires cooling in summer, is explained by the fact, that such a mode is the most appropriate for the ground heat exchanger, since in winter the heat deprivation from the ground cools the soil, and in summer the heat deprivation heats it.
