Abstract. A promising class of scaling inhibitors for seawater desalination systems using reverse osmosis is considered: the polymer inhibitors that do not contain phosphorus. The aspects of the inhibition process itself and some of the main types of polymer inhibitors, such as polyaspartates, polyepoxysuccinic acid, a copolymer of maleic anhydride and acrylic acid, as well as their derivatives, are considered. The results of studying the morphology of crystalline deposits formed in membrane modules in the presence of various inhibitors are presented.
